This week's Free Play Friday game is Realm of the Mad God. Realm of the Mad God is a Flash MMORPG that sort of resembles Gaunlet. Its uses 8-bit like sprites to represent the characters and the monsters. You have 6 different classes, warrior, knight (unlocked once you reach 10th level), wizard, rogue, archer and priest. Each class is unique in terms of what it can equipment and what it can do. Some have a longer range while others hit harder. Every attack in the game is some sort of projectile some are short others are longer. I personally like the wizard as he can shoot far.

Basic premiss of the game is go around and kill stuff and level up. If you are lucky a mosnter drops something for you. The game isn't easy. When you die you have to start over again. And believe me you will die. You will be walking along just fine and boom a boss monster will be right in front of you. While at a low level you can kill it but they hit so hard it will kill you in one shot. Don't worry too much as shots can be dodged if you got the skill and the speed. Every once an a while the Mad God will scream something at you mostly about how many minions he has and his current power. I know the point of the game is to kill the Mad God but since you need to restart the game when you die it going to be a long hard trip.

Graphics work for this game for those of you old enough to remember Gauntlet you will be right at home. The game runs great on a modest PC and while the server lags once and a while it just plays great. The monsters all have their own sprites though will be see a bunch of the same monsters together. Some are small and some are large. The boss monsters are actually very detailed as they have a larger sprite to include some detail. The game happens in a top down view on a very large map. This mage is huge and its detailed as well. You have trees and stones blocking your shots and water preventing you from moving to certain areas. If you hunt around you will find ruins and castles. They did a great job with giving this game some detail.

The game play is quite fun and I'm glad they give you some helpful tools. Like the ability to toggle shooting all the time. To the ability to change your which keys are your turning or strafing keys. The game is best played as a group. Basically I would just find other players and follow them and kill everything you see. Everyone was nice and if something dropped that you could use they would leave it. My only issue is while you have in game chat if you get lost its hard to find your fellow groupmates or if they die they spawn someplace around the map and it may be impossible to find them to give their items to them. I wouldn't worry to much as this game is constantly updated by the developers. I was playing with one of them and he warned us that the game is getting updated and he restarted the server. Not sure what was updated but doesn't matter too much all I need to know is its being updated.
