What is Free Play Friday. Well it’s a weekly article on free games out there in the world. The game could be casual flash games to Free 2 Play MMOs to free downloads. The only condition is you must be able to play the whole game without spending a cent to do so. So enjoy this weeks Free Game. This week's game is Taikodom, an action space MMO. This is a Free-2-Play MMO and based in Brazil. Not sure what issues that brings to trying to pay but I can't image in this day in age it would be a problem.
This is an interesting game. I love how it adds story to everything including the HUD. This is fast pace action space game. I have to relate it to EVE except you can actually control the ship and dogfight. Though I will say the controls are a little confusing but thanks to the training mission its learning curse is fairly small. You have 4 classes a Hotshot which is your basic fight pilot, a Juggernaut your big slow tank, a Scout or Explorer which becomes your rogue type, and a Merchant for those who just want to create an trading empire in the game.
The game takes place in future around Earth. Some virus kills all life on Earth but somehow people were saved and ended up in space. You are one of these persons and are brought out of a cryo-sleep in time to help the save Earth or something. The games starts in our solar system which is an interesting idea. For those who love exploring though they currently have 10 star systems. For those who love destroying stuff don't worry you have plenty of time and targets. Including some PvP action for those who want humans fighting against you. Don't worry if you hate PvP they have plenty of PvE missions/quests to keep you busy for a while.
For those who love playing the market this game looks like it would be great. Each station sell and buys items at different prices those who find the right trade path could make some serious money. Not positive but it looks like it’s a player economy as well but it hard to tell. Regardless its pretty detailed. The game looks like it has tons of customization for ships as well. The website states there are over 40 ships in the game and while you can't change the looks of them you can certainly change the load out of them. Judging by what I saw in the markets you have quite a choice from 4 different types of cannons to missiles and add-ons to the ship that change various systems.
The graphics are outstanding, I push everything to the max and was blown away on the details. That doesn't mean they aren't without problems things take time to load not sure if its loading textures or just lag on the server but whatever it is its annoying. You also have to watch the shaders being drawn one at a time but its interesting to see how a texture goes from a flat to the bump map and normal maps are drawn. I really can't hold this to Taikodom though as many games do this now to speed up loading of the game.
As with all my Free Play Friday I would recommend this game. Its fun has a good story and decent graphics. While the English port is still under development its pretty polished though I did notice a few translation problems but they are minor. So if you like space games Taikodom might be for you.
