What is Free Play Friday. Well it’s a weekly article on free games out there in the world. The game could be casual flash games to Free 2 Play MMOs to free downloads. The only condition is you must be able to play the whole game without spending a cent to do so. So enjoy this weeks Free Game. This weeks game is Exteel by NCSoft. Exteel is a semi-FPS game where you control giant robots in a futurist battleground. Not only do you control a Mechanaught but you can create your own out of a 1000 parts available in the game.
Exteel is one of NCSoft many Free-2-Play games that use micro-payments to earn money. Don't let that confuse you though as all the best parts and weapons can be gotten by just playing the game and earning credits. It looks and plays well, one of NCSoft better works if you ask me and that’s saying something as they have lots of outstanding products. If you like mech games you will love Exteel. This game should appeal to anyone who loves FPSers as you can play in the style you like.
Ok so you are wondering what I mean by semi-FPS genre. Well its not true FPS where your guns hit where you are aiming you have to lock-on to your target then you will hit them. If you are not locked on doesn't matter if your crosshairs are on the target it will miss. Its takes a little time to get use to it but works well when you get the handle on it. But I will admit does make it a pain when you see miss fly-up on a target you have in the sights. Besides the FPS action going on the game does have a bit of a RPG side to it. You can level your pilot skills in the game which give you nice abilities like faster cooldown on weapons, more energy or faster firing.
You could easily spend as much time customizing your Mechanaught as fighting in it. The game have a huge list of part you can buy and use. Its easy to create your own Mechanaught and different configurations will mean different play styles. If you want to run fast and fly around the arenas, make a light and fast Mech. If you want to take a punishment make a big and heavy Mech. Weapons will follow suit. You have a large selection of weapons. From energy swords and shields, guns and cannons to giant rockets, you will not be disappointed with the selection you have to pick from. Understand that parts for you Mech require either credits or NCcoins. Credits are earned by playing the game and doing well. The better you do the more credits you earn. NCcoins are what you get if you want to pay money. Some parts require either NCcoins or credits but don't worry there are more you can buy with either one. Also the best parts usually require credits which mean the only people who have them are the ones who play a lot. So in general you don't have powerful people out there who just pay for the power these people earned it.
Game play is fast paced and fun! You have 4 different modes of play available to you. Death Match, Team Death Match, Territory Control and Last Stand. All are a blast to play but I personally love Territory Control in this game. Its your standard control point game play but when you captures points if you hold them long enough drones will be created to help you protect them as well as a place to heal up. The maps are very balanced as well. Each point have many places to attack it so you don't end up with a team just camping. Really the game modes are your normal fair no really need to explain them.
Exteel is well worth the download time. If you like FPSers you will not be disappointed. If you like Mech games you will not be disappointed. Exteel is one of those game if you got 30 minutes to fill play a round of Exteel. It doesn't have a large learning curve to it and its makes a quick jump in and play type of game. Even if you don't upgrade your Mech to the greatest parts you can still compete without issues. I recommend this game.
