What is Free Play Friday. Well it’s a weekly article on free games out there in the world. The game could be casual flash games to Free 2 Play MMOs to free downloads. The only condition is you must be able to play the whole game without spending a cent to do so. So enjoy this weeks Free Game. This weeks game is another flash game called Red Fluxion. Found this game on Reddit. The creator posted it to the gaming section asking for feedback for his second game. Game play is pretty simple it’s a top down shooter. You kill swarms of enemies and collect power-ups. At the end of the level you fight a big boss. What impressed me about this game was the amount of stuff on the screen. I never thought flash could handle so much stuff moving around the screen without slowing down.
Everything about this game is awesome. All the boss battles are different and require more than just dodging bullets. Some require you to shoot non-shielded parts of the boss and the shields keep moving so you have to move. Others confine you to part of the screen with lasers, while others rush you! Once you beat a level and if you did well enough you get upgrade points. You can use these points to upgrade various options. To more bullets or missiles or to upgrade you special powers. The best part is in-between levels you can totally switch them around. These upgrades are permanent but while playing you can get temporary power-ups that last until the end of the level. I do wish the power-ups you collected while playing would stick but then I think the game would be too easy later on.
I barely managed to beat the game a few levels I had to redo to get a better score so I could get my upgrades. You have no set lives in the game you just get scored worse the more you die. If you die enough you just get a really bad score and you don’t get upgrade points for that level. While you might be able to beat the next few levels without those upgrades later level its helps greatly to have the extra damage the upgrades can give you.
I saw this game early in it life and had a few complaints regarding the ship color blending with all the bullets on the screen. In these types of games it best to not focus on any one thing and let your eyes just scan the whole field and you dodge that way. Well this only works if you can tell where you are on the screen. Thankfully others felt this way and let the author know and he made plenty of changes to the game including allowing you to pick the color of your ship. This helps ten-fold! It good to know some flash games get updated to make the game even better.
