Monday night I headed to a Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 Launch Event hosted by Blockbuster. These events happened all over the US at various stores. Around 9:30pm I got into my car and drove 20 miles to a Blockbuster store in Rockville, MD. The last event I went to was for the SEGA Dreamcast I wasn't sure what I was to expect. With all the hype over this game I felt I it would be well worth the small trip and getting back well after midnight. In truth it was well worth it. This store had about 40+ people hanging around until midnight when they could go and pick up their game.

Blockbuster has a PS3 setup inside the store with a copy of MW2 on it and people where standing around passing the controller around while they did 1 vs. 1 split screen multiplayer. Watching the crowd and the reactions I would say MW2 multiplayer even 1 vs. 1 is well worth the money. The USO had a big RV outside with a big screen attached to the side showing off the single player version of the game. Just like inside this had a crowd around it most of the night. About the only times these 2 systems didn't see players was when the raffle was going on. Blockbuster was giving out, years worth of rentals, 360es and PS3s, gamepads, wireless headsets, copies of MW2 for both systems and a MW2 collectable countdown clock. In between the raffles they were handing out MW2 posters and patriotic donuts.

Besides playing the game and waiting around for the raffles they brought in The Sergeant's Program which is a boot camp style personal training program. He was there talking to people and helping them with fitness tips as well as challenging people to pull-ups and push-ups if you could beat the Sarge's count you could win a copy of the game. Toward the end of the night I heard someone beat his count in push-ups and won the game. If I heard correct the number was around 124 push-ups. The whole time we had 105.9 The Edge, a local rock radio station, playing music for us.

About 15 minutes before midnight they held the big raffle which included all of the game copies and one PS3 and one 360. Everyone was waiting to the copies of the games to given out as well as the systems. Yours truly was one of the lucky winners, I happened to walk away from this MW2 Launch Party with a new PS3. Everyone walked away happy from this event! At midnight those who had pre-ordered MW2 or won copies of the game picked up there game and everyone went their separate ways. This was a fun event and worth going to. I know in the future I will to another Blockbuster Launch Event!
