What is Free Play Friday. Well it’s a weekly article on free games out there in the world. The game could be casual flash games to Free 2 Play MMOs to free downloads. The only condition is you must be able to play the whole game without spending a cent to do so. So enjoy this week's Free Game. So far I've hit a top down shooter, a MMO,and a flash RPG, so its now its time to hit up a FPS or in this case a 3rd person shooter. Thats right its Battlefield Heroes by EA.
So pick a side The ‘National Army’ or the ‘Royal Army’ and create a hero. Play as a Gunner, Commando, or Soldier. The Gunner is the heavy weapon guy, he has more health than the other classes and carries the BIG guns, like the anti-tank rockets and machine guns. The Soldier is the all-rounder in Heroes; he can be played as a supporting class, but also can do a lot of damage to his enemies.The Commando is considered by some to be the "sneaky" class in Heroes. He is not necessarily made for direct close-combat assault, instead he is a really good supporter from far away. nonetheless, if handled correctly, their knife can do quite some damage. He is the fastest of all the Heroes, but also has the least amount of health. Wish there was a medic class but since all 3 classes can heal through med packs or skills its not that big of a deal.
Ok so you have a hero now so join a server and blast the other team in a Control Style game. First to have zero tickets wins the round. Its pretty simple as its the standard game play in most Battlefield games. The biggest difference with Battlefield Heroes is the graphics. It very cartoony and I think fits the fast pace of play found in the game. Beisdes running around on foot over the pretty large maps you have airplanes, which you can ride on the wings, Tanks and Jeeps. These spawn near spawn points over the map and are very helpful getting around and killing the enemy. I just love being a soldier and sitting on a wing of the airplane and being able to strafe targets on the ground, of course this does require having a pilot that can fly and doesn't use the plane as a very fast transport to the fight.
Being a Free to Play game of course if you want to spend money you can to buy new outfits and helpful leveling aids like bonus XP and such. EA has stated many times real money won't get you anything to help you play the game that you couldn't get from the game itself. So far I'm very happy to say this is true. I know some would agrue that certain outfits items my help you out as they help you blend in better with some maps but in my play I haven't seen this. Looking at how often the store and game are updated I would have to say this is working well for EA and DICE and hope they embrace the Free to Play model more with other games.
I will admit the game is pretty basic but its playable and very fun. It is well worth playing and watching to see what EA and DICE add to the game. I would love it if more game modes were released for the game. But I can't complain about not paying any money for this little gem. For that it will remain at a top bookmark in my browser. I highly recommend this game to any FPS fans out there.
