What is Free Play Friday. Well it’s a weekly article on free games out there in the world. The game could be casual flash games to Free 2 Play MMOs to free downloads. The only condition is you must be able to play the whole game without spending a cent to do so. So enjoy this weeks Free Game. This week's game is a little different from the last few weeks. It’s a flash game called Monster's Den: Book of Dread by Biclops Games. Monster's Den is a classic RPG hack and slash game. You explore different dungeon levels and go on a quest. It includes 2 different adventures to go on. Two dungeon quests and a survival mode. Once you pick a quest you get to pick your class just like any other RPG. Monster's Den gives you a choice of 7 classes to pick from. In order a warrior, cleric, mage, ranger, rogue, barbarian and a conjuror. The conjuror class is only available if you are playing the game on Kongregate site. Pick a portrait and name your party and off you go.
Once you have your party created you start the game. From here the game is pretty simple the object of the game is to find the next level of the dungeon and to clear the level of monsters. Throughout the levels you will find NPC to help you, treasure and alters, which restore your health and mana, and of course monsters. Combat in this game is turn based. It starts out with you being able to position your party on the field. This is basically front and back rows. From there you pick your attacks and who you are going to attack. Early on the battles are simple but later on they do get hard it will require some strategy to win. After a battle hopefully you find some treasure. With all the loot you will find make sure you remember to equip it. After a while you will start to have a bunch of treasure that you either can't use or out grew. When it’s a good thing you can find teleport scroll that will take you to the item shop where you can sell your treasure and buy some new stuff.
For each level of dungeon you discovery you gain a level for each class. At the level up you get to increase your stats and pick a new skill. The stats are pretty standard. Strength which control how hard you hit. Endurance controls your hit points. Dexterity which helps with range attacks. And Intellect which controls how powerful your magic is. Skills are totally different depending on class. You could have cleave for your warriors and a group heal for your cleric. Each class has a good selection of skills. Some of the skills will totally change how you will play that class while others will increase your power. You will have more skills than you will skill points in the normal game so pick wisely when you level up.
This is a great flash game and if you like old school RPGs then you will love Monster's Den. With three different games you will be playing this for a while. With a great selection of treasure and classes as well as random dungeons means you can replay this game after you beat it. So head on over to Kongregate and play Monster's Den: Book of Dread.
